Fashion Flair: Katie’s Cup of Tea

Bonjour Mademoiselles!

I am très très stoked to be contributing to Teen Corner with the oh-so-lovely Bree.
As a newbie, I thought it would be nice to sit down and share a cup of tea with all of you so you can get to know me a wee bit.

So without further ado….

Meet Paramore:

I do not hide my adoration (daresay obsession) for this grand band. I’ve seen them live three times, talked to them twice and have even met them once!  The lead singer, Hayley Williams, is one of the reasons I am addicted. She has a very confident persona with a rocking style and fabulous hair to match. She is definitely one of my fashion idols.

This past summer, I got the crazy idea to design and make Hayley a dress which I gave to her when I met the band in person. (SEE PICTURE!)

I was so excited to find out that Paramore is featured on the soundtrack for Twilight, the much anticipated film version of the book by Stephenie Meyer. Check out the video below:

I am  such a Francophile; from crème brulees to Chanel to French accents who doesn’t love the land of the chic?! Plus, I love rocking the infamously classy Parisian red lips.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s, my favorite movie ever, sparkles likes diamonds. I absolutely ah-dore Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly. Plus this movie is highly educational with the most useful fashion knowledge: the history of the introduction of the “little black dress” to the fashion world. And I must say, nobody does the little black dress better than Audrey Hepburn.

So there’s my cup of tea, I hope I didn’t bore you to death!

I’d love to get to know all of you. Please tell me what some of your favorites are—bands, movies, designers… I’d love to know!

au revoir ♥
Katie

Teen Corner: Homecoming Makeup

Teen Corner

Hello friends! I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend.

The Homecoming Dance was a couple weeks ago and Katie had the best idea for her dress. She painted the bottom of the white dress she wore to our 8th grade graduation a rockin’ shade of hot pink. It was an inexpensive way to have a fun new dress and it turned out super cute:

Before the dance, she stopped by our house to have my mom do her makeup. Mom thought Katie would look great with soft, smokey eyes and sparkly pink lips:

Here’s how to re-create Katie’s pretty Homecoming makeup:

  • Eyes: Chanel Smoky Eye Quad is very glamorous and more subtle than other smokey eye palettes. To get Katie’s look, cover the entire lid with the light grey shade (bottom left shadow in the Chanel Smoky Eye Quad palette). Use a damp eye liner brush to line the entire eye with the darkest shadow, going over the top lash line twice for a thicker line. Using the sparkly grey shade (top left shadow) and a dense eyeshadow brush, blend over the eyeliner so the line is not harsh. Sweep that same color up into the crease, making sure not to get it on the center of the eyelid (you want this to area to be light so you draw attention to the center of your eye). Highlight the inner corner of the eye and the brow bone with the lightest shade. Add some mascara and false lashes to the outside corner of the eyes for drama. That’s it! Easiest smokey eye ever!
  • Cheeks: NARS Albatross/Sin Highlighting Duo is the best party blush to have in your makeup bag. It’s so versatile and looks great on everyone—all your friends will be borrowing it. With a very light hand, tap Sin on the apples of your cheek and blend out (in the direction of your ear) and down slightly with a blush brush (MAC 116 is my mom’s favorite). Using your fingertip, lightly blend Albatross onto the cheekbone for a pretty glow.
  • Lips: Bobbi Brown Pink Glitter Gloss is sheer and sparkly with just a teeny pop of pink color. Sparkly pink lips gave Katie’s look a sweetness to balance the smokey eyes.

And there you have it— the prettiest makeup for the Homecoming dance.

Twilight’s Kristen Stewart on Teen Vogue Cover

Teen Corner

Twilight’s Kristen Stewart is on the December/January cover of TEEN VOGUE.

I honestly haven’t read the Twilight books but, whatever, neither has Kristen:

Twilight is the hotly anticipated adaptation of author Stephanie Meyer’s smash-hit debut novel – all four titles in the now-complete series continue to be best sellers – but before Kristen got the script she had never even heard of the books.  “ I guess I was just living under rocks and mountains,” she says cheerfully.  “And though we were warned, I figured it would be a pretty exclusive fan base.  I thought we were making a cult movie; I had no idea it was going to be this, like, phenomenon.”

Despite having Kristen’s merits debated on Internet message boards before she had even shot a frame of film, she is almost improbably perfect to play the part of Bella Swan, a recently relocated high school junior who falls in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson.  “Bella’s a very relatable girl,” says Kristen.  “She inhabits qualities that most girls have, even if it’s not on the surface.”  Physically, Kristen works:  she is capable of being both slightly plain (as Bella feels) and impossibly beautiful (as Edward sees her).  “What I love about the story and what puts it on a different level is that it’s ‘chemical’…there’s nobody else for either of them.  Period.”  The romance, which Kristen describes as “unworldly but not fake,” was a big draw. She did, on occasion, draw from her own romantic life – she’s been with boyfriend Michael Angarano “forever” as she puts it.

Kristen lived in an apartment on her own for the first time while shooting Twilight. “You are an insane person after you wrap a movie!”, she says. “Especially with Twilight.  You spend three and a half months living the story. We all had one main goal, we were all equally invested and focused – it was just a very intertwined experience.”

What about Kristen’s take on fashion? “If I’m just chilling out, then people can see me any which way, but it’s different when you’re putting yourself together to do something professionally,” she says. “You’re under a lot of scrutiny,” she admits.  “It’s a bizarre thing, to me, to consider that what I wear or what I do with my hair, can affect my career.” But Kristen respects the process and takes it in stride. “I’m not the type of person who has a million things in my closet to put together, so I’ve begun to work with a stylist and we’ve started to figure out what I like.  Simple, classically pretty things; I love Chanel.”

You can catch Kristen as Bella Swan in Twilight, on November 21, 2008.  You can also see Kristen in the upcoming coming-of-age comedy Adventureland with Ryan Reynolds in 2009. The Dec/Jan 2008 issue of TEEN VOGUE is on sale nationwide November 18, 2008

Teen Corner: My current faves

Teen Corner

Fall is in full swing and I thought it would be a great time to tell you about my current makeup favorites.

This year I’ve ditched my signature black eye liner for a look that requires less maintenance. (Okay, not completely ditched it, but I’m wearing substantially less!)  With all the homework I have this year (I had no clue junior year would be this hard!) and all the late nights studying, every extra minute of sleep is like a gift from heaven wrapped in a big silver bow.

I’ve found a few essential products that help make my morning routine quick and simple while allowing me to still look good when I walk out the door:

Soft Lips: This lip balm is so smooth and moisturizing—I can’t stop applying it. My favorite flavor is Vanilla but it also comes in Cherry, Strawberry and Raspberry. And now, for the holidays, there are two limited edition duos: Sugar Cookie & Cherry and Wintermint & Vanilla. Yum!

NARS Super Orgasm Blush: Every time there’s a dance or some other special occasion, my friends come to my house for a little TLC (and makeup!) from my mom. She uses NARS Orgasm blush on practically everyone and, amazingly, it looks incredible on every skin tone. I was so excited to see the new SUPER ORGASM—a pumped up, sparklier version of the original Orgasm. This blush is so gorgeous, just a little swirl on the apples of my cheeks and I’m suddenly fresh-faced and looking instantly pretty. Loves it.

Christina Aguilera Inspire: I’m drawn to pretty, floral scents like this one from Christina Aguilera. This sweet and feminine fragrance has top notes of mango, freesia and citrus, middle notes of tuberose and frangipani and base notes of orange, musk and sandalwood. I can’t get enough of it!

What are your favorites this season? I must know!!
