Teen Corner: Homecoming, Part II

Teen Corner

So, my mom and I had this really great idea to make a video of us all getting ready for the Homecoming Dance. I wanted to show you how chaotic it is at my house when there’s a dance. (Actually, it’s chaotic all the time—but even more so when there’s a dance!)

There were 7 freshman girls (Bailey and her friends) and 5 sophomore girls (me and my friends) getting ready here ALL AT ONCE. Plus, everyone’s parents stopped by to take pictures, meet our dates, and lend their support. Needless to say, things were so crazy I didn’t have a chance to get to the video. I’m so bummed because it would have been great. (And it would have been FUN to have a permanent record of my sister’s crappy attitude, which could possibly be attributed to PMS—but is most likely due to her I-am-the-Princess-and-don’t-you-forget-it syndrome. Now that the weekend is over, I’d like to take her tiara and twist it into a little knot before tossing it into Lake Tahoe—never to be seen again.)

The homecoming festivities started on Wednesday with a parade and bonfire. Bailey was originally going to wear one of her (three!) dresses for this event, but the homecoming committee thought it would be too cold for formal wear.

The bonfire was so much fun—and the night ended up being not as cold as we anticipated. Mother Nature saved that for the following night.

For the official homecoming festivities at Friday night’s football game, Bailey wanted to look really special. She went to our local MAC counter to get her makeup done and wore a sparkly silver dress that looked incredible under the stadium lights. She sat on her float, bare-legged and bare-shouldered with a red nose and chattering teeth as the temperature hovered around 45 degrees.

Yesterday morning, we all slept in and enjoyed a lazy morning before starting to get ready for the dance. We prepped and primped for hours, coming out looking fly, if I do say so myself.

We all had a great time and danced the night away. Today it’s all about cleaning up our mess. Aaaughgh!

(Did I tell you my sister got three new dresses?)

Teen Corner: Homecoming

Teen Corner

So, some exciting news this week. My younger sister, Bailey, was selected as Homecoming Princess for the freshman class at our high school.

This is both good and bad.

Good because my sister is totally adorable and (sometimes) sweet so she deserves it.

Bad because ARE YOU KIDDING ME? SHE GETS THREE NEW HOMECOMING DRESSES!!!

Yes, you heard me right.

There are three events associated with homecoming this week—a parade/bonfire on Wednesday night, the formal Homecoming presentation at the football game on Friday night, and the Homecoming dance on Saturday night—and my spoiled brat little sister got a new dress for each event ! Craziness.

While the weekend revolved mostly around Bailey, I did manage to get a cute pink dress for myself and a new MAC foundation.

MAC Hyper Real SPF 15

If you only utter two words again in your entire life, let them be HYPER REAL .

This foundation is lightweight and offers sheer coverage with a subtle pearly glow. So pretty!

I got it in NC400 (my skin is kind of dark) and I love it so much. (Don’t even think about borrowing it, Bailey!)

So, all our friends will be at our house this weekend getting ready for the Homecoming dance and I hope you’ll stop by. I have a special feature planned for Teen Corner—it’s going to be so much fun!

See you on Saturday!

Teen Corner: Face of the Week

Teen Corner

My first "Face of the Week":

Brees Face of the Week

I chose this look because it’s the first time I’m wearing BROWN instead of black eyeliner! That’s huge for me.

Here’s what I used:

First I applied the powder/bronzer all over my face. For my eyes, I lined both upper and lower lids with the Shiseido cream eyeliner. I used a flat eyeliner brush which makes it super easy to apply. Then I used the lightest color in the Bobbi Brown palette (Gold Dust ) over my entire eyelid, the medium color (Toffee ) in the crease, and the darkest color (Burnt Sugar ) over the cream eyeliner. This helps to set the eyeliner and gives me a smokier look. Next, I curled my lashes and applied tons of black waterproof mascara, added some lip gloss, re-powdered my face with the bronzer—and there it is. All done!

Teen Corner: The Process

Teen Corner

Oh my gosh—it seems like every time I write an entry for Makeup Bag these days, I’m apologizing for not writing an entry for Makeup Bag.

But I do have excuses. I really do. There’s school, and Homecoming, and studying for my driver’s permit (I’m so excited)! And a girl must have a social life, you know?

Over the last few weeks, a few readers have requested a detailed account of my beauty routine. This has been kind of hard to nail down because each day for me is different, but here’s an overview:

Before Bed

My mom is a freak about skincare. She is always getting after my sister and me to wash off our makeup, moisturize, wear sunscreen, blah, blah, blah… To keep her quiet, we’ve learned to comply with her demands. Here’s my evening skincare routine:

  • MAC Pro Eye Makeup Remover icon This stuff is great for taking off waterproof mascara and the loads of black eyeliner that I’ve been known to wear occasionally (Ha!)
  • Clinique Acne Solutions Clear Skin System I’m lucky to have mostly clear skin, but when hormones and a few too many Chalupas catch up to me, this three-step system by Clinique is the best.
  • Boots Quick Thinking 4 in 1 Wipes These things are like bread and butter at our house. We’re never without them! They make washing your face while watching The Hills a simple task.

Morning

My morning routine is kind of a craps shoot. If I oversleep, it’s a rush of crazy madness getting myself together (and keeping my sister out of my bathroom! She borrows my Hai every morning now that her Sedu Revolution died an untimely death). However, if I wake up on time and have time to be artistic with my eyeshadow, I’m a happy girl.

Here’s a recap of my mornings:

  • Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 This is the perfect moisturizer for everyday. It’s light, fragrance-free and protects from the sun—I use it every day. (And starting next month, this will have new packaging–check it out!)
  • Physicians Formula Bronzers I can’t go wrong with these bronzers. There’s so many to choose from and they are SO affordable. A quick sweep over my face evens my skin tone and brightens instantly.
  • BLACKNESS! I love my black eyeliner and tons of waterproof mascara. I can’t afford to use expensive brands because I blast through these items, so I usually get what’s on sale at the drugstore. (Or free samples from my mom! A perk of being the daughter of a beauty editor.)
  • MAC Eyeshadow Pooled together, there’s a ridiculous amount of MAC Eye Shadow in this house. Because of this, the artistic possibilities are endless. Yesterday I had the most incredible yellow and green eye shadow on—I must have gotten 50 compliments at school. The best thing about MAC Eye Shadows is their blendability (the computer is telling me that is not a word, but, whatever). Starting tomorrow, I am going to post a picture here of my eyeshadow creations with a step-by-step guide to the products I used.
  • MAC Lipglass We tend to fight over lipgloss here. My favorites are Out for Fun (the color I’m wearing in this picture) and Underage. I haven’t wore lipstick since I used up my tube of Proenza Pink.

There it is! Check back tomorrow for my Face of the Week.

Peace,

Bree
