Dior Skinflash Primer–Radiance Boosting Makeup Primer

dior skinflash primer

I’m super intrigued by this new primer from Dior – its packaging boasts a brush applicator, something not typically seen in the packaging of its competitors.

The formula utilizes photo-smart pigments with photochromic properties to create a light, beautifully lit-from-within complexion. The pigments are adaptable (code: the formula is sheer) and the formula contains radiance-boosting skincare goodies. The product is billed as a primer, but I’d be willing to bet that it would double well as a tinted moisturizer.

Dior Skinflash Primer – Radiance Boosting Makeup Primer is available from Sephora for $40.

Jane Iredale Absence Oil Control Primer SPF 15

jane iredale absence

Sometimes, my normal-to-dry-to-combination skin becomes a bit oily. It’s always a surprise to me and generally returns to normal as quickly as it became slick.

My go-to favorite for oilier days is Jane Iredale Absence Oil Control Primer SPF 15. Its unique formula seeks to attack the problem at its root by calming overactive sebaceous glands without affecting the skin’s moisture level. It simultaneously acts as a primer to provide an even, smooth canvas over which to apply makeup.

Jane Iredale Absence Oil Control Primer SPF 15 is available from Nordstrom for $35.50.

BECCA Mattifying Primer

We’ve heard mixed reviews on the BECCA Cosmetics brand, which kind of surprises us. While the products are more on the expensive side, they’re certainly not as costly as some other high-end brands.

Our experience with BECCA has been nothing but love. We’re especially impressed with the wide range of foundation colors that have yellow undertones—which tend to be more flattering on all skin tones (in our opinion). The Luminous Skin Colour foundation is a cross between a tinted moisturizer and a sheer foundation with SPF 25—perfect for our skin in the drier winter months when moisture is scarce here in the desert. We also love the Creme Blush in Amaryllis (a favorite of beauty editors for years) which blends nicely and gives us natural, radiant color that lasts all day.

Becca Mattifying Primer

Recently we had an opportunity to sample the BECCA Mattifying Primer which really does help to keep shine at bay. We use this only where needed—in tour t-zone—to smooth out lines, fill in pores, and create a nice smooth canvas for our foundation. We like how it’s light and non-greasy and keeps us looking fresh—not shiny.

MAC Prep and Prime SPF 50

Last week we stopped by our local MAC store to pick up some items from the McQueen Collection and almost fell over when we saw MAC Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF 50icon on the shelf. They had been out of stock for (what seemed like) EVER, making us worry that we might never again be blessed with a primer that not only helps control oil, but is ultra-lightweight, disappears into the skin, and protects with SPF 50.

We picked up several tubesicon and tucked them safely into our beauty closet, just in case MAC ever decides to freak us out like that again. (Don’t get any ideas, MAC.)
