What’s in My Shower: February 2011

It’s been a while since I gave you a peek into my shower. Now that I think about it, it’s been a while since I’ve done ANYTHING here at Makeup Bag.

How are you?!

I’m gearing up for an exciting weekend in Los Angeles where I’ll be attending the Independent Spirit Awards with a group of beauty bloggers. The trip is being sponsored by Aveeno and RecycleBank and includes things like spa services, lunch with Dr. Jessica Wu and backstage access to the Independent Spirit Awards.

I’ll be tweeting from the road, so follow me on Twitter for updates on how my weekend’s going. Hopefully I’ll meet some friendly celebrities!

Now, here’s the products I’ve been enjoying in my shower this month:

Bed Head by TIGI Colour Goddess Shampoo & Conditioner

I picked up a sample of this Bed Head by TIGI shampoo and conditioner on my trip to New York last month. I love how it smells like warm marshmallows and leaves my hair feeling soft and clean. The key benefits of this Colour Combat line is the Colour Lock Down Technology that helps seal and protect color while repairing damaged hair. I’m also obsessed with the spray-on leave-in conditioner, which detangles and moisturizes without weighing down my hair.

Dove Go Fresh Cucumber & Green Tea Body Wash

I can’t get enough of this cucumber-scented body wash. Here in Hawaii where it’s hot and humid, two showers a day are a must (especially if you work in a restaurant). I love how this body wash leaves my skin feeling refreshed and squeaky clean without leaving any residue.

Clarisonic Refining Skin Polish

Did you know the Clarisonic PLUS has a body brush head in addition to the face brush head? This key feature makes the $30 price difference (between the classic Clarisonic and the PLUS) totally worthwhile. I’m obsessing over this Refining Skin Polish and feel like a new girl every time I step out of the shower.

Aveeno Stress Relief Body Wash

I purchased this lavender-scented body wash months before Aveeno invited me to participate in their blogger weekend, but it is my favorite bath product of the moment. After a long day at work, I sometimes like to relax in the tub and soak away the day’s stresses. This scent of this body wash really does help me wind down and leaves my skin feeling soft and clean.

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel

This Dermalogica foaming gel cleanser is gentle and soap-free. It thoroughly cleans my skin without disturbing its natural moisture balance. And the best part? It’s fragrance free!

Old School Makeup Bag: Because I Have Hair Issues

Not that hair is my only issue, because—trust me—I have many. But my hair is truly a girl’s worst nightmare.

In order to achieve the slightest bit of volume, I must pack on the product, and blow-dry with a big round brush almost immediately after getting out of the shower (read: hair must be sopping wet).

If I don’t go through these steps, my baby fine hair lays flat against my head like I’ve been wearing a beanie for 18 hours. It’s bad.

The one alternative we’ve found to avoid these woes is the Tigi Bedhead Dual Barrel Waver.

tigi dual barrel waver

This handy little waver is my best friend when I get distracted in the morning—updating this website, making breakfast for the kids, doing last-minute ironing—and find my hair completely dry before I know it (when you have hair as fine as mine it air-dries in 6 minutes flat). Thankfully, a few crimps with the Tigi Bedhead Dual Barrel Waver and I’m ready to walk out the door with perfectly presentable hair.

The barrel is adjustable for deep or shallow waves and works wonders to give life to my limp locks. I use this 2-3 times per week (or more) for wavy, voluminous hair in half the time it takes to blow-dry.

If I’m in a super-rush, I’ll crimp just my crown and hairline before pulling hair back into a low pony. This adds volume and dimension to an otherwise boring ponytail.

Tigi Bedhead Dual Barrel Waver is available online at Ulta.com for $34.99
