The Body Shop: Buriti Baby

buriti_baby_range

The Body Shop has a new line of baby care products called Buriti Baby that I’m head over heels for.

Even though my baby is six years old, she still has sensitive, delicate skin that tends to get dry here in Nevada. The Buriti Baby line has a shampoo, body wash, body lotion, massage oil and body butter—all with a lovely gentle scent. These products are made with mild, all natural ingredients to soothe, soften and protect young skin.

Buriti Baby is available at The Body Shop for $13-$20.

Winter Skin-Saving Ingredient: MONOI

monoi1

Cold, dry air is my skin’s worst enemy.

A humidifier in my bedroom keeps me somewhat supple, but I still suffer from dry, itchy skin on my trunk (that sounds weird) and legs. Thankfully I found an ingredient that’s been saving my skin this winter: monoi.

Monoi is basically just pressed coconut oil infused with sweet smelling gardenia but it seems like so much more. Applied after a bath or shower to damp skin, monoi oil locks in moisture and relieves even the driest skin. Like the women of Tahiti (where monoi oil is part of a long-established cosmetic practice) I’ve also been using this as a pre-shampoo conditioning treatment, applying to my hair 15 minutes before I shower, to restore shine and bounce to my dehydrated hair.

Here are my favorite Monoi oils:

Elemis Exotic Frangipani Monoi Moisture Melt ($48)

I had a sample of this Elemis monoi oil sitting around for nearly a year before I discovered it. Of my three favorites, I like the smell of this one the best.

NARS Monoi Body Glow II ($59)

The most expensive of my three favorites, this luxurious NARS oil has an original tiare flower in each bottle for a special touch.

The Body Shop Spa Wisdom Monoi Miracle Oil ($20)

Affordable and moisturizing, I’ve had friends that have sworn by Spa Wisdom Monoi Miracle Oil for years.

Note: Monoi oil tends to harden in colder temperatures. To liquify, just place in a bowl of warm water (or, I prefer to keep a bottle on the floor of my shower where the hot water and steam liquifies the oil).

Wherein we raid the cabinets of another beauty-obsessed-product-junkie

This week we’ve been visiting our sister in Dallas, Texas and are thoroughly enjoying our time in her bathroom.

Where a normal shower takes us 11 minutes– we’re spending, like, TWENTY checking out and trying all the products in Sister’s shower. (Because our sister is single and doesn’t have to share space with anyone, her beauty products occupy every drawer, shelf, cabinet, nook and cranny in her bathroom entire house.) (This makes us laugh because our mother is a makeup minimalist: moisturizer, mascara, lip balm, Shalimar. Done. How she produced two product junkies, we’ll never know.)

Here’s some of the goodies from Sister’s bathroom we’ve been enjoying this week:

Bath & Body Works Cherry Blossom Shampoo & Conditioner

We had no idea that our favorite Bath & Body Works scent (Cherry Blossom) came in a shampoo & conditioner. A VOLUMIZING shampoo & conditioner. Our sister picked these up for $5 each while on an extended business trip and not only do they smell divine, they work great.

We’re a sucker for eye cream and this Philosophy Hope In A Tube Eye & Lip Cream is extra rich and firming. After only a few days, our eyes are already looking better.

At home we rarely have time for masks, but this week we gave The Body Shop Wise Woman Intensive Firming Mask a whirl and found our skin feeling smooth and moisturized. (Added bonus: a few moments of spa-like bliss). (Sister doesn’t know this, but this one is going home with us).

We want to tell you about all her makeup–but we’ll have to save that for another day (when we have three hours to spare!).

In the meantime, we’re enjoying the summer thunderstorms and 85% humidity here in Dallas.
