Get the Look: Miranda Cosgrove at the Kids Choice Awards

miranda cosgrove

Last weekend here in Kauai, Janey invited four of her friends over for a ‘Kids Choice Awards Sleepover Party.’

The five girls spent the afternoon swimming in the neighborhood pool before settling down in the living room for an hour or so of non-stop SCREAMING. (Thank you Nickelodeon for keeping the KCA’s short and sweet!)

It’s been a long while since I was 7 years old, but OHMYGOD the way these girls are infatuated with Justin Bieber. I can’t even begin to explain.

I mean, the extent of my 7-year-old pop culture experience was staying up late on Saturday nights to watch The Love Boat and Fantasy Island. If only I knew that somewhere in the future a 15 year old boy would be singing “baby, baby, baby, oh…” to little 7 year olds across the world, garnering over 49 million visits to his video on YouTube, I might have prepared myself a little better. You know, by moving to Canada, or something like that.

In addition to Justin Bieber, the girls worked themselves into a frenzy over iCarly’s Miranda Cosgrove. “She looks so pretty!” “I love her dress!” “Look at her nail polish!”

Immediately following the show, the girls dug into my makeup stash and tried to re-create Miranda’s look.

“Miranda has such beautiful skin so I wanted to keep her make-up soft but playful,” said Coleen Campbell-Olwell, who created her look for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. Using the following steps, Campbell-Olwell illustrates how to create her fresh faced look:

For Miranda, I started with Neutrogena Skin Clearing Oil Free Foundation in Natural Ivory.

To control shine, I dusted Neutrogena SkinClearing Mineral Powder in Classic Ivory (a favorite of mine!) over her skin .

I wanted Miranda’s eyes to “pop” so I swept Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Quad in Vintage Wine, it is so easy to use as each color is labeled to show you where to place it on the eye. A great tip is too blend purple shadow along the bottom lash line instead of a dark liner as it keeps it soft and opens the eye.

I blended Neutrogena Nourishing Eyeliner in Brown Sugar along the top eyelash line. I finished the eye with two coats of Neutrogena Healthy Lengths Mascara in Black Brown…it really lengthens your lashes!

I used Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow blush in Berry Glow, one side has a soft shimmery bronzer for contouring the cheekbones and the other side has a Berry Blush for the apples.

I wanted a soft petal pink but with a shine, so I used Neutrogena MoistureShine Lipstick in Sheer Luck SPF 20.

Emmy’s Red Carpet Watch: Hayden Panettiere

hayden panettiere emmys

Celebrity Makeup Artist Amy Oresman created Neutrogena brand ambassador Hayden Panettiere’s look for the 2009 Emmy awards earlier this week, where Hayden presented the award for Best Reality Host, and shares how you can achieve this glam look at home.

Amy’s Inspiration:

“Hayden sought a classic red lip to match her gorgeous J Mendel gown, so I looked to her Italian heritage, and her recent vacation in Italy, for inspiration and designed a look you’d find on glamorous women in Rome.”

Skin Prep:

“I believe in the old adage that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” so careful attention was paid to Hayden’s skincare prior to the Emmy’s. Hayden’s choice is skin iD, personalized acne system from Neutrogena Dermatologics. ”

Eyes:

“To give Hayden’s lashes maximum impact I used three coats of the NEUTROGENA® Healthy Volume™ Mascara in Carbon Black.”

Lips:

“I prepped Hayden’s lips with NEUTROGENA® MoistureShine® Lip Soother in Sparkle. It hydrated and protected her lips — a critical first step to ensure the bold color of Hayden’s luscious red lips would have staying power. For a beautiful red I chose NEUTROGENA® MoistureShine® Lip Stick in Cherry Twist.”

Cleansing and Makeup Removal:

“After all the after parties I recommend a gentle, yet effective cleanser that will banish all traces of dirt and makeup. Hayden love the NEUTROGENA® Deep Clean Cream Cleanser, a cleanser and makeup remover all in one.”

Teen Corner: Foundation primer and flawless skin

Teen Corner

There’s big news here at Teen Corner this week:

I GOT MY PERMIT… I am a student driver! Yay!

(If you’ve yet to get your permit, and would like a little tip from little ol’ Bree, let me just say this: Read The Manual . This is not a test you can pass with common sense alone—because, those people at the DMV? They are tricky folks. They try to throw you off with their big words and complicated questions that could easily be answered if they just asked them in an un-tricky way. Geeesh.) (Also—if for some reason you don’t pass the test on the first try, don’t worry, there’s always tomorrow.) (Just saying.)

Now that I’m a driver , my freaky mother is going nuts about the sunscreen thing. Since my face will no longer be under the protection of the tinted back windows, she says I need to make a habit of applying sunscreen daily. Personally, I think the woman is crazy, but after rummaging through a pile of her beauty products, I found this:

NARS Primer with SPF 20

NARS Makeup Primer SPF 20

This primer is so lightweight, it sort of melts into my skin and disappears. And my foundation looks even better than it did before. (Which I didn’t think was possible.) The only problem I’m having is remembering to put it on… I might have to put a sticky-note on the bathroom mirror as a reminder! (Also, this is no substitute for the real sunscreen deal, but for someone like me, it’s a step in the right direction.)

Along with the primer, there’s a few other things I want to tell you about to help create flawless skin:

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Foaming Cleanser

This foaming cleanser contains salicylic acid and is really gentle. My sister’s skin is sensitive, yet she gets frequent breakouts on her forehead (if she would just listen to me and pin her bangs back during volleyball practice, she might not have a problem. But I’m just her older sister—what do I know?). When used daily, this cleanser helps to fight pimple-causing bacteria.

ThermaClear Heat Enabled Acne Treatment

This handy little device is the hit of our neighborhood. All of our friends come over to borrow our ThermaClear (even the boys—no joke!). (Before you gross out, please know that we thoroughly clean it with rubbing alcohol between uses. Thoroughly .)

Here’s how it works: Acne is formed when excess oil and skin cells clog a pore, allowing bacteria to be trapped and become inflamed. ThermaClear spot treats acne with a burst of thermal energy that penetrates the skin, much like a laser treatment at the dermatologist’s office, and neutralizes the underlying bacteria allowing skin to heal faster.

It doesn’t hurt at all, just feels a little warm, and it really works!

Don’t forget to work on your Halloween costumes—there’s only 10 days left (Bailey and I are going as Fook Me & Fook You from Austin Powers!).

Hope you have a great week.

xo,

Bree
