Oscars Beauty: Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez looked radiant at the Academy Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles wearing a beaded Armani Prive gown.

Her makeup look was created by Matthew Vanleeuwen for NARS Cosmetics with the Orgasm Illuminator, Cruising Lipstick, D. Gorgeous Single Eyeshadow, Sweet Dreams Lip Gloss and new-for-Summer 2010 products Enchanted Cream Blush and Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.

Master stylist Robert Vetica created the modern and sophisticated style by applying Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream on wet hair to create smoothness and shine. After blowdrying hair straight he sectioned hair off and created two ponytails, an inch
apart, one on top of the other to create volume below the crown of the head.

Next, Vetica used a curling iron on each ponytail to create texture, and then brushed them out for width and volume. After creating the shape of the updo, he strategically pulled out stands throughout the look to create a modern textured effect using flyaways around the forehead to further soften.

He then finished with new argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray.

Oscars Beauty: Charlize Theron

Even though I wasn’t too thrilled with Charlize Theron’s Oscar dress this year (what was up with those boob-buds?) her hair looked extraordinary. Inspired by the classic shape of her gown, her longtime hairstylist, Enzo Angileri, created a style that emphasized delicate, enduring beauty.

“To create this look I needed a very smooth texture and lots of natural-looking shine,” explained Angileri. He used new argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Light, made especially for fine and light colored hair, on wet strands before blow-drying to ensure the hair itself looked perfected.

“After that about 50% of my work was done,” he said, “and I had a texture that was workable, healthy-looking and naturally beautiful.”

Angileri then created a low, classic bun by rolling hair around clockwise, held in place with several bobby pins, to complete the classic polished look.

He finished the style with a light misting of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to give hair an extra touch of red carpet glamour for the cameras. The look was held in place with new Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray for a firm, flexible hold.

Oscars Beauty: Anna Kendrick

Yesterday I was traveling so I’m a day behind on my Oscar beauty updates, so forgive me if you’ve already seen these looks.

Anna Kendrick wore a romantic blush-colored Eli Saab gown on the Oscar red
carpet, complimented by an effortlessly elegant, modern updo designed by stylist Craig Gangi.

Gangi, inspired by the graceful off-the-shoulder look, created an updo highlighting softly waved texture accenting healthy hair with natural-looking shine. He first applied argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to add moisture and give hair a soft hold that was smooth as well as frizz-free and static-free.

After blow-drying hair straight, Gangi used a medium sized curling iron to create loose, natural waves. He then pulled strands back, leaving just enough hair at the nape of the neck to create a small ponytail, and shaped a loose, undone textured bun.

To add a touch of drama, he went back to weave three small braids with the remaining hair, then again braided the three with each other. Finally he circled the braid around the bun. After pinning the style, he sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to hold the look in place without stiffness, and misted the final updo with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray for additional boost of red carpet shine.

Celebrity makeup artist Sara Glick created a “very soft, neutral look with bronze undertones” for Anna Kendrick using her favorite Dior eyeshadows and mascara: Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Sunset Cafe and Incognito and DiorShow Unlimited Mascara.

Mussed, Voluminous Curls at J. Mendel

jmendel-collage

Spring at J. Mendel is about ethereal silhouettes and soft textures, so the makeup reflects this inspiration through clean, matte skin, light pink cheeks and lips, and an elongated smoky eye that is pretty, yet powerful.

Celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown created this look with the following:

Lead hairstylist Odile Gilbert for Moroccanoil created voluminous, chaotic curls on the J. Mendel models. “It’s all about volume–tons of volume–and a round, fluid shape. This look is very feminine,” says Gilbert, adding, “It’s not feminine-frilly; rather, it’s femininity with a modern twist.”

To create this look, Odile followed these steps:

  • Take 1 to 2-inch sections and mist on new Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray (on counters in December) to protect against heat and enhance the coil of each curl
  • For thick hair, apply Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream, then curl each section from roots to end using a 1/2 inch curling iron. Gently release the barrel and allow each curl to fall as a spiral.
  • After all sections are curled, run Intense Curl Cream through the curls as you separate with fingers. (Tip: when used as a finishing product, Intense Curl Cream eliminates frizz and adds shine.)
  • Flip head upside-down, fluff the curls, and spray with Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray.
  • Flip hair back, arrange curls to ensure the perfect amount of airy texture, and finish with another mist of hair spray.
