Spring Lipsticks: Coming up Roses

Lipstick is magical.

In one swipe it has the ability to brighten my face and boost my mood. My favorite hue is any variation of rose, of which I have 712 tubes, as it is the most flattering shade on my skin.

Bobbi Brown, author and creator of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics (as if she needs an introduction) says in her new book Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual, “Use the natural color of your lips as a guide when choosing a lipstick shade. The most flattering shade will either match or be slightly darker than your lips.”

(If you don’t know this, I LOVE BOBBI BROWN. She celebrated her birthday this week (April 14th)—Happy Birthday Bobbi!)

One of my most-used lip products is this Bobbi Brown Basics Lip Palette which complements my skin tone perfectly. In addition to this palette, I’m loving these five new spring lipsticks:

From left to right:

Lancôme Color Fever Lipstick in Mademoiselle: Color Fever Lipstick is super long-lasting and has a rose scent that I love. This shade is slightly darker than my natural lip shade and seems like it was made just for me.

CHANEL Aqualumière Sheer Color Lipshine in Malta I strongly believe that every girl should have a Chanel lipstick in her bag. Every time I use this I feel so indulgent and glamorous—and the formula is moisturizing and shimmery.

NARS Lipstick in Shrinagar: This sheer raspberry shade from the NARS Spring Collection is so flattering. It adds just enough color to brighten my face and, since the formula is sheer, doesn’t appear overly done.

Estée Lauder Signature Hydra Lustre Lipstick in Mayfair Mauve: This has a hint of pink to add some “special” to my everyday look. Also, the ultra luxe case makes this the the prettiest lipstick in my Makeup Bag.

Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Baby (BE 208): This color is a perfect nude with a hint of pinkness. These lipsticks are so moisturizing, too.

Earlier this month I asked my friends on Facebook and Twitter about their favorite shades of lipstick and here’s what they said:

Cheryl Edwards (my friend from high school) swears by fire engine red lipstick!

My Facebook friend Lori Jenkins can’t live without Lancome Pink Organza (she’s on her 5th tube!).

Another Facebook friend Tanya Sharma loves Trish Pink Innocent. “I’m on my third, which is a record for someone this fickle.”

My former co-worker Bethany likes Sally Hansen 18 Hour Lipstick in Clear Raisin.

Fellow beauty blogger Jamie from The Beauty of Life always ends up going back to Lancome Pixel Pink.

My Twitter friend Ponikuta swears by anything coral. “A girl can never have enough coral lipsticks.”

“I am stuck on all shades of pink gloss,” said my friend Stiletto Mom via Twitter.

The Urban Whisk (another Twitter friend) told me she loves Flamingo by Chanel (sadly, it’s discontinued).

My friend Heather couldn’t name just one, “where do I start? Girl about town, lady danger, so chaud…I wonder if I like them for the names. LOL.”

Real-life friend and fellow beauty blogger Amber told me “Clinique in Tenderheart is one of my all-time faves!”

Another real-life friend and fellow beauty blogger Carla said, “‘O’ by MAC, llllove it!”

Tell me, what lipstick color are you loving right now?

Estee Lauder Spring 2009: Fuchsia Now

estee-lauder-spring-2009

More spring! More spring!

As the cold, dark evenings of late winter turn to the warm, light days of spring and your social
calendar begins to fill with the promise of enchanted evenings spent outdoors, express your
growing optimism for the season by infusing warm, captivating colors into your wardrobe. As
seen on numerous runways for spring, muted, neutral tones combine with vibrant fuchsia and
bold berry shades in geometric patterns and graphically stylized florals. A sultry use of sheer
fabrics and soft, billowy silhouettes help temper the chic, hot shades of spring, for a look that is casually elegant, yet sophisticated.

Taking cues from the spring runways, Estée Lauder’s new, limited edition Fuchsia Now Color
Collection is a feminine, flirty and fun color collection that encapsulates the trend of wearing
bold color combined with soft neutrals. Fuschia Now contrasts light and bright, pairing warm
honey and tender peach shades with vibrant fuchsia for a look that is flattering for every skin
tone. Cheeks bloom with a hint of fresh color, while eyes allure in shades of deep indigo and
rich earth tones. Lips are full, soft and lustrous and are enhanced by perfectly polished nails in
complementary shades. Soft petal designs, featured in the collection’s powder compact and eye shadow palettes, highlight the vibrant fuchsia touches and reinforce the season’s upbeat and lighthearted mood.

Here’s what we’ll find in this collection:

New Limited Edition Fleur de Lys Shimmer Powder

A modern fleur de lys designed palette that combines fresh pink shades with soft muted neutrals. The powder’s luxurious, silky formula delivers a beautiful radiance and sheer hint of color for skin that appears fresh and glowing.

Signature Satin Creme Blush

Lightweight and easy to apply, this hydrating blush delivers a naturally radiant look that never streaks, fades in color or settles into pores or fine lines.

  • Berry Light
  • Nude Light

Signature Silky Eye Shadow Duo

New, limited edition shades:

  • Indigo
  • Aubergine

Also in this collection is the Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Fuchsia that I fell head over heels for last spring.

The Estée Lauder Spring 2009 Fuchsia Now collection is available beginning February 2009 at all Estée Lauder counters and online at esteelauder.com.
