What’s in My Shower: February 2011

It’s been a while since I gave you a peek into my shower. Now that I think about it, it’s been a while since I’ve done ANYTHING here at Makeup Bag.

How are you?!

I’m gearing up for an exciting weekend in Los Angeles where I’ll be attending the Independent Spirit Awards with a group of beauty bloggers. The trip is being sponsored by Aveeno and RecycleBank and includes things like spa services, lunch with Dr. Jessica Wu and backstage access to the Independent Spirit Awards.

I’ll be tweeting from the road, so follow me on Twitter for updates on how my weekend’s going. Hopefully I’ll meet some friendly celebrities!

Now, here’s the products I’ve been enjoying in my shower this month:

Bed Head by TIGI Colour Goddess Shampoo & Conditioner

I picked up a sample of this Bed Head by TIGI shampoo and conditioner on my trip to New York last month. I love how it smells like warm marshmallows and leaves my hair feeling soft and clean. The key benefits of this Colour Combat line is the Colour Lock Down Technology that helps seal and protect color while repairing damaged hair. I’m also obsessed with the spray-on leave-in conditioner, which detangles and moisturizes without weighing down my hair.

Dove Go Fresh Cucumber & Green Tea Body Wash

I can’t get enough of this cucumber-scented body wash. Here in Hawaii where it’s hot and humid, two showers a day are a must (especially if you work in a restaurant). I love how this body wash leaves my skin feeling refreshed and squeaky clean without leaving any residue.

Clarisonic Refining Skin Polish

Did you know the Clarisonic PLUS has a body brush head in addition to the face brush head? This key feature makes the $30 price difference (between the classic Clarisonic and the PLUS) totally worthwhile. I’m obsessing over this Refining Skin Polish and feel like a new girl every time I step out of the shower.

Aveeno Stress Relief Body Wash

I purchased this lavender-scented body wash months before Aveeno invited me to participate in their blogger weekend, but it is my favorite bath product of the moment. After a long day at work, I sometimes like to relax in the tub and soak away the day’s stresses. This scent of this body wash really does help me wind down and leaves my skin feeling soft and clean.

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel

This Dermalogica foaming gel cleanser is gentle and soap-free. It thoroughly cleans my skin without disturbing its natural moisture balance. And the best part? It’s fragrance free!

Friend Finds: Better than new shoes (almost)

friend-finds-2

Last month I spent a few days at my friend Kristen’s house in New York and found three new products in her bathroom to rave about.

Finding products in bathroom cabinets and makeup bags of my friends is kind of like going on a mini shopping spree, only better because I can actually test everything for the duration of my stay. (My sister’s bathroom is the best place to “shop” for beauty products because the products I fall in love with are mostly products she originally snagged from my house. It’s like being reunited with long-lost friends.)

At Kristen’s house, I obsessed over these three products:

  1. Sonya Dakar Nourishing Body Oil, a super moisture-sealing body oil that is paraben-free with no dyes or fragrances. I couldn’t wait to shower each morning knowing I’d be slathering my skin in this silky, non-greasy body oil.
  2. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, a rice-based enzyme powder that’s added to your daily moisturizer to brighten and exfoliate skin in the gentlest way.
  3. Revive Moisturizing Renewal Cream, a rich night cream with EGF (Epidural Growth Factor) and glycolic acid to increase cell renewal and improve skin’s clarity.

Thankfully my airline-approved ziplock was already at max-capacity otherwise I might have been tempted to throw these products in my luggage!

Solar defense

Just because the lazy days of summer are now a distant memory and each morning we’re greeted with crisp fall air as we leave for work, there is no excuse to scrimp on sun protection. Even on cloudy days, the sun’s harmful rays are our skin’s worst enemy, causing premature aging and skin cancer.

Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster This Solar Defense Booster SPF 30 by Dermalogica is fragrance free and can be easily blended with your foundation or worn alone.

Armed with avobenzone to fight both UVA and UVB rays, Solar Defense Booster also has vitamins A, C & E to further protect against premature aging and a light, gentle scent that makes it hard to believe this is sunscreen at all.

Be skin smart and don’t be caught without protection.
