Race Review: Carlsbad Half Marathon 2013

This week I completed my very first half marathon in Carlsbad at the 2013 Tri-City Medical Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon.

I met up with my BBBFF (beauty blogging BFF) Julia where we stayed at the Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Hotel.  I loved this sitting area in the lobby, with a wall of twinkle lights behind the couch. Super cute.

The race expo was at the mall, where the starting line also was. We hung out there for a bit but we felt cramped under the expo tents and needed some fresh air. Coming from Hawaii, it was nice and cold for me. Coming from DC, it was nice and warm for Julia.

We ate dinner at Vigilucci’s Cucina Italiana on State Street where we had pasta (me) and wine (Julia).

I ended up wearing my long sleeve race shirt to run in because I wasn’t prepared for 53 degree weather. Turns out, it was perfect racing weather.

The course ran along the ocean for the first 6.5 miles and then we turned around and came back. It was pretty flat for the most part with a small incline right before the turnaround.

I finished the race in 2:19:03, but had a negative split so I was happy about that. The final mile back to the mall was brutal. I knew the finish was near as I could hear the crowd but I couldn’t see it and it seemed to be just out of reach FOREVS.

Thankfully it finally ended and I met up with this pretty girl at the finish.

We’ve already booked our trip for next year. Can’t wait to see you again, Carlsbad.
