What’s in My Shower: February 2011

It’s been a while since I gave you a peek into my shower. Now that I think about it, it’s been a while since I’ve done ANYTHING here at Makeup Bag.

How are you?!

I’m gearing up for an exciting weekend in Los Angeles where I’ll be attending the Independent Spirit Awards with a group of beauty bloggers. The trip is being sponsored by Aveeno and RecycleBank and includes things like spa services, lunch with Dr. Jessica Wu and backstage access to the Independent Spirit Awards.

I’ll be tweeting from the road, so follow me on Twitter for updates on how my weekend’s going. Hopefully I’ll meet some friendly celebrities!

Now, here’s the products I’ve been enjoying in my shower this month:

Bed Head by TIGI Colour Goddess Shampoo & Conditioner

I picked up a sample of this Bed Head by TIGI shampoo and conditioner on my trip to New York last month. I love how it smells like warm marshmallows and leaves my hair feeling soft and clean. The key benefits of this Colour Combat line is the Colour Lock Down Technology that helps seal and protect color while repairing damaged hair. I’m also obsessed with the spray-on leave-in conditioner, which detangles and moisturizes without weighing down my hair.

Dove Go Fresh Cucumber & Green Tea Body Wash

I can’t get enough of this cucumber-scented body wash. Here in Hawaii where it’s hot and humid, two showers a day are a must (especially if you work in a restaurant). I love how this body wash leaves my skin feeling refreshed and squeaky clean without leaving any residue.

Clarisonic Refining Skin Polish

Did you know the Clarisonic PLUS has a body brush head in addition to the face brush head? This key feature makes the $30 price difference (between the classic Clarisonic and the PLUS) totally worthwhile. I’m obsessing over this Refining Skin Polish and feel like a new girl every time I step out of the shower.

Aveeno Stress Relief Body Wash

I purchased this lavender-scented body wash months before Aveeno invited me to participate in their blogger weekend, but it is my favorite bath product of the moment. After a long day at work, I sometimes like to relax in the tub and soak away the day’s stresses. This scent of this body wash really does help me wind down and leaves my skin feeling soft and clean.

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel

This Dermalogica foaming gel cleanser is gentle and soap-free. It thoroughly cleans my skin without disturbing its natural moisture balance. And the best part? It’s fragrance free!

Winter Skin Fix: Peter Thomas Roth Ultimate Creme

Last month I took a trip to New York City to be an expert panelist for the Redbook MVP Beauty Awards. This was very exciting because 1) I had an opportunity to test hundreds of lip glosses, moisturizers, primers, perfumes, eye shadows, etc… and 2) SNOW STORM!

The city was hit with over 6 inches of snow the morning I arrived which meant I got to bundle up (after a quick stop at H&M for a scarf and some gloves) and trek through Manhattan in my Frye boots. Pure joy, I tell you.

All my joy faded later that night when I got back to my hotel and felt like my face was going to crack and fall off from the cold, dry air.

Remedy: Peter Thomas Roth Ultimate Creme!

Earlier in the day I had received a sample of this skin-saving cream and applied with apprehension (many products tend to sting my face when it’s dry and irritated). Thankfully Peter Thomas Roth Ultimate Creme didn’t sting at all and instead left my dry skin soothed and moisturized. I especially love the tube packaging with a pump (no digging into jars means no face cream under my nails).

Since returning to Kauai, I have continued to use this every night and couldn’t be happier with the way my skin feels. Peter Thomas Roth Ultimate Creme rejuvenates even the most dry, dehydrated skin to look and feel softer, smoother and more richly nourished.

Peter Thomas Roth Ultimate Creme is available online at PeterThomasRoth.com for $48.

Ongoing Obsession: Clarisonic Mia

I bought my first Clarisonic about 3 years ago after a visit to the Kate Somerville Clinic in Los Angeles where the esthetician schooled me on the importance of deep (yet gentle) cleansing.

Nothing cleans my skin better and allows skincare products to penetrate better than the Clarisonic. Clarisonic Sonic Skin Cleansing Systems use a patented sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to gently, yet thoroughly remove 6X more makeup and 2X more dirt and oil than cleansing with your hands alone.

Three years and several Clarisonics later (my cousin Cindi gifted me with a blue Clarisonic Mia from Japan and I recently scored a garnet Mia as well!) I am just as obsessed as I was back then. Now, the Clarisonic Mia comes in SIX different must-have colors for every bathroom countertop (white, yellow, blue, pink, lavender and garnet) for great skin at home or on the go.

Also, for a limited time Clarisonic is offering a Limited-edition “Hope”  Mia developed in support of Look Good… Feel Better, an organization dedicated to improving the self-esteem and quality of life of women undergoing treatment for cancer. Clarisonic will make a donation to Look Good… Feel Better for every “Hope” Mia sold.

The Clarisonic Mia is available online at Clarisonic.com for $149.00.

Daily Style: Jillery Wire Wrap Bangle

Last week I spent a few days in New York City where I attended the New York International Gift Fair with my beauty blogging BFF, Julia.

While perusing the hundreds of vendor exhibits, I came across the booth for Jillery by Jill Fagin, a Greenwich Village-based artist who created this unique mixed metal wire wrap bangle.

I fell in love with all her pieces and wanted to share. Check out all the Jillery by Jill Fagin designs at Jillery.com.
