7 Days of Holiday Looks: Day 2

holiday look day2

Today was kind of a hair fiasco for me. I had to get Janey off to school earlier than usual this morning so I quickly crimped my hair and threw it into a messy bun.

This worked for the first few hours of my day but when it came time to update the 7 Days of Holiday Looks feature, I realized it was just NOT the look I was going for:

day 2 holiday

I pulled my hair down, parted it on the side and fluffed it up with hairspray. The girls said I look like a “freakshow” and my hair is “frizzy and out of control”— but I am totally fine with this hair. It’s the messy, flyaway look, right?

Totally appropriate for the holidays!
day two holiday looks

MAC Party Line Lipstick ($14)

The highlight of my second holiday look (aside from the hair, obv) is this gorgeous plum-red lipstick from MAC called Party Line. It’s a cremesheen finish and is a great cool-toned holiday red.

Le Blanc De CHANEL Sheer Illuminating Base ($45)

This primer by CHANEL is white in color but don’t be afraid. I brush a light layer of this on my skin with a foundation brush and then mix a drop of it with my regular foundation for a really pretty glow. It’s kind of a pain to take an additional step with primer, but it truly helps to keep foundation looking fresh longer. For special occasions, like the holidays, it’s totally worth the extra effort in my opinion.

NYX Smokey Look Kit ($8)

Can I just say that this little smoky eye palette from NYX is the best $8 you’ll ever spend on makeup? I am so impressed with the color selection and I truly love how my eyes turned out. I used the two matte colors, a dark brown and a black, to create my smoky eyes today. With most of the color concentrated near my lash line, it’s just enough drama to make my eyes stand out without competing with the red lips.

Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Mascara

This mascara remains one of my favorite beauty finds of the year. If you’ve heard me say it once, you’ve heard me say it a gazillion times: I LOVE HYPNÔSE DRAMA.

Bree’s Look, Day 2:

bree holiday day2

Bree opted for a less bold, shimmery gold and plum hued-eyes for her second holiday look. It’s hard to see in this photo but her skin is glowing from this pretty highlighting powder.

Estée Lauder Opulent Shimmer Powder

This golden shimmer powder is so light and pretty. Bree brushed it over her cheek bones and across her forehead and chin for a subtle holiday glow.

Estée Lauder Signature Eyeshadow Quad with Lattice Pattern in Lavish Plum

These plummy neutrals warm up Bree’s face without looking too “done.” These shadows can be layered for a stronger intensity and more vibrant color.

CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara

LashBlast remains Bree’s favorite mascara (the waterproof formula) and I’m hard pressed to even suggest she try anything else. Whatever works, right?

Bailey’s Look, Day 2:

bailey holiday day 2 scarf

Bailey dressed up her eyes today in shimmery green shadow to match her forest green scarf. She wanted to duplicate the same hairstyle she received at the salon yesterday—big flowy waves with lots of volume.

bailey day 2

bareMinerals Eyecolors in Soiree and Freedom

These green eye shadow glimmers are so easy to apply and super pretty. Bailey used the bareMinerals Prime Time Eyelid Primer to create an emollient base before applying the loose shadows.

NYX Goddess of the Night Lip Gloss in Perfect

I can’t believe I haven’t tried NYX glosses before this week. The colors are so glossy and pretty, and not sticky at all (a MUST for me). The yummy scent of these glosses remind me of a favorite gloss I used to wear as a kid but I just can’t put my finger on it. Any ideas?

Sue Devitt Eye Illuminator Pencil in Epernay

Bailey used this highlighter pencil in the corner of her eyes and along her brow bone. The creamy formula blends easily and can be layered for more intensity. This season, Sue Devitt has a limited-edition Holiday Kit that includes THREE eye intensifier pencils (including the one Bailey used today).

  39. Hypnose seems awesome for volume + length, but are there any mascaras out there especially for length and curl? I have the Asian eye fold, and I tend to have problems with curl [like, w/ or w/o an eyelash curler]. I’ve never tried any of Devitt’s products… if I win, I think they’d be a great intro to the line (:

    Comment by Maggie S. — November 28, 2009 @ 6:15 pm

  40. I was looking at the blog’s archives, and I was thinking that it would be great if you could do more FOTDs like this one. I didn’t see much in your archives. I know that you’re running your series right now, but it would be great to see more FOTDs regularly!

    Comment by Crystal P — November 28, 2009 @ 7:32 pm

  41. Does it count as entering if you comment in other posts?

    Comment by Crystal P — November 28, 2009 @ 7:34 pm

  42. I was just looking at this post for the hundreth time lol. But I really love Bailey’s hair! I’m so jealous of the big, bouncy curls! I wish my stick-straight hair would curl that beautifully!

    Comment by Crystal P — November 28, 2009 @ 7:39 pm

  43. I was looking at Day 1, and I noticed that you included what perfume you were wearing. Can you please do that for the other days? :) I’m loving MJ Lola right now.

    Comment by Crystal P — November 28, 2009 @ 7:41 pm

  44. Crystal P.- I’m lovvinggg Eau de Fleur de magnolia. It’s floral and such…. unless you’re a must kind of gal. Ohh la la, MJ Lola? I wanna try some (:

  45. I love that we get the holiday looks times three, it makes it so we get such a variety of styles and everything, gotta love a mix of color and style… from smokey to bronze to au natural colors. Lovvee it!

    Comment by Maggie S. — November 28, 2009 @ 7:58 pm

  46. OMG Maggie S! MJ Lola is amazing! If you’ve tried Harajuka Lovers Music, it’s like a more chic, sophisticated blend of that!

    Comment by Crystal P — November 29, 2009 @ 10:29 am

  47. I’m personally hoping to see more smoky looks, but in colors that aren’t black. Like a deep blue, navy smoky eye look would be amazing!

  48. Hopefully, there will be a look using the Clinique Holiday Collection! I love purples so those are calling out to me.

  49. I went to Macy’s yesterday and was looking at the Estee Lauder Holiday collection, I really like the gold packaging! I know that some might call it tacky, but I think it looks festive. The shimmer powder is really pretty too!

  52. I do adore the holidays for that the packagings and advertisements and ahhhh it’s just awesome. Who can resist sparkles?? Especially ones in silver and gold… those are fabulous.

    Comment by Maggie S. — November 29, 2009 @ 12:48 pm

  53. How do those eyeliners blend? That’s always of immense importance (esp. for the corner and underneath the eye) to me.

    Comment by Maggie S. — November 29, 2009 @ 12:49 pm

  54. We can’t always have good hair days… no worries (: The MAC lipstick… is it more of a matte, shimmer, creamy… etc. sort of formula? I love one that’s light and shiny, rather than a heavy, bold one.

    Comment by Maggie S. — November 29, 2009 @ 12:51 pm

  55. Referring back to comment thirty-six (by Crystal P), I do wonder what the odds are… but I’m too lazy to get out my calculator, haha. (times one has entered)/(amount of entries) = eyeliner love.

  72. Ahh, the holidays are the best days of the year (: What with store sales and make up holiday features and family and holidays and it’s just lovely.

    Comment by Maggie S. — November 30, 2009 @ 9:13 pm

  73. I know what you mean- Bailey’s hair is just, like, not normal. It’s too glossy and bouncy and beautiful and full and amazing to be normal.

    Comment by Maggie S. — November 30, 2009 @ 9:14 pm

  74. Maybe I can show the medium eyeliner to my bestie, Mia… hers is always smudging wayyy too much for me to not be bothered by it (: I can give her a crash course in proper eyeliner technique… that’d be such a fun holiday event, a beauty/spa for 5 select BFFs.

    Comment by Maggie S. — November 30, 2009 @ 9:16 pm

  75. ^ Like, the girl who has the flawless complexion refer everyone to her cleanser she uses… and the one who seems to spot all the newest trends can trade gossip… and the girl who NEEDS a new set of make up can get a new bag started by all her friends! Ohh, I may go actually try that this year (:

    Comment by Maggie S. — November 30, 2009 @ 9:18 pm

  76. Back again because I love your holiday looks (and I am still loving those pencils!! :) xoxoxoo Love, Carolina

    Comment by Carolina — December 1, 2009 @ 1:07 pm

  77. Personally, I would rather win these pencils than the Lancome gift box, because I know that I’d get more use out of this set! I love eyeliners!

    Comment by Crystal P — December 1, 2009 @ 4:39 pm

  78. I’m still hoping to win!

    Comment by Crystal P — December 1, 2009 @ 4:42 pm

  79. Today, I’m actually wearing the CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara Waterproof! I purchased it yesterday, based on your review and some other reviews from makeupalley!

    Comment by Crystal P — December 1, 2009 @ 4:46 pm

  80. I have to say that so far, it’s pretty waterproof! It lasts very well. I also like the volumizing factor, but wish it was more curling. It’s a nice mascara for the price though.

    Comment by Crystal P — December 1, 2009 @ 4:49 pm

  81. My HG Mascara is Stila MAJOR Major Lash Mascara, which I was comparing it to. Still, CoverGirl LashBlast is vey good when compared. Just a touch of curling and it would be perfect! I am definitely going to repurchase!

    Comment by Crystal P — December 1, 2009 @ 4:52 pm

  82. Just another comment for luck! (Hopefully, I’ll win!)

    Comment by Crystal P — December 1, 2009 @ 4:55 pm

  83. Our school gym class is in the swimming period, which is horrible, because I have gym early on in the day, so I can’t do my make-up at home, where I have the full arsenal on hand. It is so frustrating!

    Comment by Maggie S. — December 1, 2009 @ 8:38 pm

  84. The Lancome White Box seems like quite the prize… but I think a box of eyeliners is a much more simple, practical type of giveaway and/or gift.

    Comment by Maggie S. — December 1, 2009 @ 8:39 pm

  85. Thank you SO MUCH for posting the hair curling tutorial… I’m definitely trying it as soon as possible!

    Comment by Maggie S. — December 1, 2009 @ 8:40 pm

  86. We can’t all have amazing hair… er… weeks…. as Bailey does, the flyaway look is much more realistic. Love it (: Definitely what mine would end up looking like, if I tried to “experiment” a little bit. [Trust me... my 'experiments' don't turn out so well, haha. At least in the hair department.]

    Comment by Maggie S. — December 1, 2009 @ 8:42 pm

  87. I can’t wait to see more looks using the holiday collections! I would love to see a gold look.

  89. I have to say that CoverGirl LashBlast, which I’m wearing again today, is proving to be a great mascara. I can’t wait to try it in the rain. I hate when rain ruins my eye makeup, so hopefully, my lashes will hold up!

  101. I can’t wait to go to the mall tomorrow! I’m going to Sephora and am going to swatch up the Urban Decay Super Stash like crazy! I also want to check out the Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara.

    Comment by Crystal P — December 4, 2009 @ 5:09 pm

  102. I curled my hair today using the tutorial Bailey made. I didn’t set with hairspray though, because I don’t like it. Still, my hair looked really great!

    Comment by Crystal P — December 4, 2009 @ 5:13 pm

  103. Oh, and the reason I think it looked better than ever was because I followed her directions, by clipping away half my hair and doing the underside of my hair. I also started from the back and worked forward and curled away from my face, like she said. I think it really works! My hair was looking fab, and I got so many compliments!

    Comment by Crystal P — December 4, 2009 @ 5:14 pm

  104. I couldn’t get over the fact that my hair was curly today! I have stick straight hair and I LOVE big, bouncy curls. So, today was a great day for me! :)

    Comment by Crystal P — December 4, 2009 @ 5:15 pm

  105. I think that I might have to purchase a hairspray, because my hair looked so great today, that I really want it to look great always. I know that hair stays in its style longer when used in conjunction with hairspray, so I’ll try some.

    Comment by Crystal P — December 4, 2009 @ 5:17 pm

  106. I know that Planet Beauty is having a sale right now with Sebastian Shaper Hairspray for $5.99! That’s super cheap, so I’ll try that one even though Bailey said in the video that the only reason she used that one was because it was the one in the bathroom! :)

    Comment by Crystal P — December 4, 2009 @ 5:19 pm

  107. Just to clarify, the only reason I don’t like hairspray is because when I was young, the hairspray I used was disgusting. It made my hair stiff, crunchy, and just horribly hard. Plus it gave me that slicked back, too tight look. However, I think I might try the one Bailey used, just because her hair looks great. So, hopefully it’ll work on me too!

  110. I just heard today that if you went to the Estee Lauder counter yesterday, they were giving out free glosses! I’m so upset, but at least I know that I have enough glosses already to keep my pout shiny for the next ten years!

  111. I would have been so upset if they were giving out free mascaras or blushes or eyeshadows! Those, are worth waiting in line for; considering that Estee Lauder makes great ones.

  112. I’m super excited to go spend my Sephora coupon. I know exactly what I want. The Urban Decay Super Stash. I’m obsessed with eyeliners, especially Urban Decay’s ones!

  113. I also have a $10 coupon for Victorias Secret that I’m hoping to use to buy some products from Heidi Klum collaboration line. I really like the look of that glittery liquid purple liner!
