YouTube Sensation: Sarah LaMantia

This week on YouTube,  I stumbled upon a talented young musician from West Virginia named Sarah LaMantia.

Sarah has a beautiful voice and plays the piano by ear. If that’s not enough, take a look at this girl’s hair:

Up, down, straight, curly… Sarah has undeniably enviable hair. I caught up with Sarah yesterday and asked her how she keeps it looking so shiny and healthy.

Makeup Bag: Hi Sarah! Thank you for taking time to answer my questions. You are an amazing pianist and vocalist. How long have you been studying piano? And do you really play all your songs by ear?

Sarah LaMantia: First off, THANK YOU. I don’t think I’m “amazing” by any means, but I try my best. I do play everything by ear. I studied piano when I was younger for something like 8-10 years. I honestly can’t even remember when I started. I was very young. I was very talented, but just did not enjoy the music I was being taught to play so I gave it up. I got inspired by my favorite band, Hanson, to take up the piano again a few years back. I wanted to learn one of their songs and couldn’t find music for it, so I just listened to it over and OVER until I learned it by ear. I’ve played like that ever since.

Makeup Bag: Can you tell me a little about yourself?

Sarah LaMantia: I’m older than I look… I’ll leave it at that. People ask me all the time if I’m still in high school. haha! I get a kick out of it, but I’m just a tad older. I live in the middle of nowhere in West Virginia, but my family is close by so my heart is here. I can see me moving in the not so distant future. I’ll go where my dreams lead me.

Makeup Bag: How much time do you spend each week recording videos for your YouTube channel?

Sarah LaMantia: I don’t spend a ton of time recording for YouTube. The best videos tend to be the ones I decided to do on the spur of the moment. If I sit down and say, “Okay, I’m recording a video now,” it usually takes a long time and isn’t one of my faves. My favorite ones are the spontaneous videos because they have the most raw emotion. Adding in harmonies takes a little more time, but I enjoy it so it’s cool!

Makeup Bag: You have amazing hair. Can you tell me what products you use to keep it looking healthy and shiny?

Sarah LaMantia: Ah, my hair. People comment about my hair almost as much as they do my singing. It’s funny because I just don’t get the amazement with it. Most of the time I hate it and wish it were long, straight and blonde (all of which it is not!). I use Garnier Sleek and Shine styling products most of the time. Shampoo/Conditioner/Leave-In Conditioner and Straightening Balm. I also mix in a little Chi Straight Guard straightening cream and Frizz-Ease by John Frieda. My hair is naturally wavy so when I decide to wear curls I use something called Waves of Envy by Sunsilk. Can you tell I LOVE product?! My mom owns a salon so I love to play with whatever I can get my hands on.

Makeup Bag: What are some of your favorite beauty products?

Sarah LaMantia: I have been using a Revlon eyeshadow quad for YEARS now and I can’t live without it! The color is called Sandstorm and I’m in LOVE with it. Aside from that I love Benefit’s new blush Coralista and my DiorShow mascara. I’m not picky when it comes to makeup. I’ll try anything. I can’t go anywhere without lip gloss though. Like most girls I’m addicted!

Makeup Bag: Thank you, Sarah. I look forward to watching you become a huge star!

Be sure to check out Sarah’s YouTube channel and subscribe to her videos. You won’t be disappointed!

  • Her hair is fabulous. I love the half up, wavy look. It’s great to know that she has great hair and uses drugstore products even though her mom works in the business.
