Daily Style: Park and Lex Ring by Kate Spade

park-and-lex

This 12 karat gold-plated Park and Lex Cluster ring by Kate Spade is covered in a small cluster of gold beads. It looks very similar to a Swatch ring I once had but gave to my sister because it kept slipping off my finger. (Hm, I wonder if she still has it…?)

The gold beads roll around a bit making little jingly noises and entertaining me while I’m on extra-long conference calls.

Kate Spade Park and Lex Cluster ring, $75.

SAG Awards Red Carpet Beauty: Amy Adams

For Amy Adams, as soon as Matrix stylist Mark Townsend saw her beautiful dress, he knew her hair should be in an updo.

He first applied Vavoom Height Of Glam Volumizing Foam to her damp hair and blow dried it with his fingers — no brushes allowed! When all her hair was dry, he took a dollup of Biolage Molding Souffle in his hands and raked it through Amy’s hair. Next, he gathered all her hair at the back of her head and twisted it into a large, messy bun, securing it with several bobby pins. To make sure the style lasted all night, he finished the look off by spraying her hair all over with Vavoom ShapeMaker Extra-Hold Shaping Spray.

SAG Awards Red Carpet Beauty: January Jones

Actress January Jones had one of my favorite looks from last night’s SAG Awards.

For the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Matrix stylist Mark Townsend, who works at Sally Hershberger salons in LA and NYC, wanted to give January Jones a gorgeous, modern hairstyle to match her beautiful Andrew Gn dress.

He first applied Biolage Volumizing Whipped Mousse to her damp hair and blow dried it with a Spornette Mixed Bristle Round Brush. Next, he took three inch sections of hair and sprayed them with Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-In Volume Protective Dry Mist and wrapped each section around a GHD 1 1/2 inch curling iron and set for 15 minutes. When all the hair was set and curled he took out the pins and brushed out the curls with a Mason Pearson flat brush. The end result was a soft yet modern look that played up January’s natural beauty.

SAG Awards Makeup: America Ferrera

sag-america-ferrera

America Ferrera looked enchanting at last night’s SAG Awards in Los Angeles.

Her makeup was inspired by her beautiful Vera Wang beige chiffon gown, with black trim accented by a giant flower at her hip. Linda Hay wanted her make up to have a fresh and romantic feel, yet very modern to compliment the gentle nature of her dreamy gown. Therefore she decided on a very simple eye, a peachy cheek and a deep red lip.

Linda began creating her look by lightly evening America’s complexion using YSL’s Touche Eclat where necessary, around the eyes, the nose and the corners of the mouth, followed by a light dusting of powder. She then applied Shu Uemura’s “Peche” directly to the apple of the cheek for a fresh, youthful look.

For the eyes, she drew a fine line on the top eyelid with Jouer’s eye definer “Mure”. Using a large flat eye brush, Linda gently swept a shimmering white shadow from Cle de Peu’s #14 Eye Quad, across the entire lid, up and into the brow. With a smaller pointed eye brush she lined the silver shadow from the same palette to the bottom lid and from the inside corner to the outside corner of the eye. The inside of the eye was lined with Jouer’s eye clarifier “Clair”. Finally, Linda applied three generous coats of Chanel mascara to both top and bottom lashes. The brow was strong and well defined using Anastasia’s Brow Kit.

On the Lips, she used Mac Viva Glam.
