Very important fact: Mammography is especially valuable as an early detection tool because it can identify breast cancer at an early stage, usually before physical symptoms develop when the disease is most treatable.
Thanks for the giveaway

Some other great scents by Kenzo are: L’eau Par for men (smells like soda) and women (just like water), Flower (powdery carnation), Summer (mimosa- flower, not a drink!). Kenzo is pretty famous in Europe and Asia but not so much in US:(

Here are some BC facts:
Studies show that early detection, when followed by appropriate treatment, saves lives and increases treatment options. The five-year survival rate for breast cancer is 98 percent among individuals whose cancer has not spread beyond the breast at the time of diagnosis.
Comment by faith24 — October 16, 2008 @ 9:43 am
Breast cancer ranks second among cancer deaths in women (after lung cancer).
Honestly, I expected Breast cancer to be number one
Comment by faith24 — October 16, 2008 @ 9:43 am
An estimated 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the United States during 2008.
It would be interesting to see how the numbers are similar/different in other geographic regions.
Comment by faith24 — October 16, 2008 @ 9:45 am
About 1,990 men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008.
Comment by faith24 — October 16, 2008 @ 9:46 am

Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 5:35 am
I love October – I really do – This is so much better, funner, easier, and more rewarding (ultimately) than that whole August Allure fiasco (I’m sure there were plenty of you at your comps at the hour, on the hour, from noon to 5p watching the milliseconds tick by). I am so addicted to all these blogs, sucked in by the contests and now I’m learning so much and finding out about all these products and things! Can’t wait to find my inner-sexy-fashion/makeup-diva!

Yearly mammograms are recommended starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health.
Comment by faith24 — October 17, 2008 @ 9:18 am
A clinical breast exam should be part of a periodic health exam, about every three years for women in their 20s and 30s and every year for women age 40 and older.
Comment by faith24 — October 17, 2008 @ 9:19 am
Women should know how their breasts normally look and feel and report any breast change promptly to their health care providers. Breast self-exam is an option for women starting in their 20s.
Comment by faith24 — October 17, 2008 @ 9:19 am
Every three minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.
Comment by faith24 — October 17, 2008 @ 9:20 am
Not counting some kinds of skin cancer, breast cancer in the United States is
The most common cancer in women, no matter your race or ethnicity.
The most common cause of death from cancer among Hispanic women.
The second most common cause of death from cancer among white, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women. 1
Comment by faith24 — October 17, 2008 @ 9:21 am
For men, signs of breast cancer and treatment are almost the same as for women.
Comment by faith24 — October 17, 2008 @ 9:21 am
Different people have different warning signs for breast cancer. Some people do not have any signs or symptoms at all. A person may find out they have breast cancer after a routine mammogram.
Comment by faith24 — October 17, 2008 @ 9:22 am
The Myth
Finding a lump in your breast means you have breast cancer.
The Truth
If you discover a persistent lump in your breast or any changes in breast tissue, it is very important that you see a physician immediately. However, 8 out of 10 breast lumps are benign, or not cancerous. Sometimes women stay away from medical care because they fear what they might find. Take charge of your health by performing routine breast self-exams, establishing ongoing communication with your doctor, and scheduling regular mammograms.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:04 am
The Myth
A mammogram can cause breast cancer to spread.
The Truth
A mammogram, or X-ray of the breast, is one of the best tools available for the early detection of breast cancer. It CANNOT cause cancer to spread, nor can the pressure put on the breast from the mammogram. Do not let tales of other people’s experiences keep you from having a mammogram. Base your decision on your physician’s recommendation and be sure to discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:04 am
The Myth
Men do not get breast cancer.
The Truth
Quite the contrary. Each year it is estimated that approximately 1,700 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 450 will die. While this percentage is still small, men should also give themselves regular breast self-exams and note any changes to their physicians.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:05 am
The Myth
Having a family history of breast cancer means you will get it.
The Truth
While women who have a family history of breast cancer are in a higher risk group, most women who have breast cancer have no family history. If you have a mother, daughter, sister, or grandmother who had breast cancer, you should have a mammogram five years before the age of their diagnosis, or starting at age 35.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:05 am
The Myth
Breast cancer is contagious.
The Truth
You cannot catch breast cancer or transfer it to someone else’s body. Breast cancer is the result of uncontrolled cell growth in your own body. However, you can protect yourself by being aware of the risk factors and following an early detection plan.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:06 am
The Myth
Knowing you have changes in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene can help you prevent breast cancer.
The Truth
While alterations in these genes in men and women can predispose an individual to an increased risk of breast cancer, only 5% to 10% of patients actually have this mutation. This is not an absolute correlation. Like your age or having a family history of breast cancer, it’s a factor you just can’t control. But you can let your physician know, perform regular breast self-exams, and focus on the fact your chances of not having this disease are greater than 90%.

Types of Breast Cancer:
Ductal Carcinoma In-Situ (DCIS)
DCIS is a type of early breast cancer confined to the inside of the ductal system.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:07 am
Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma (IDC)
IDC is the most common type of breast cancer representing 78% of all malignancies. These lesions appear as stellate (star like) or well-circumscribed (rounded) areas on mammograms. The stellate lesions generally have a poorer prognosis.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:08 am
Medullary Carcinoma
Medullary carcinoma accounts for 15% of all breast cancer types. It most frequently occurs in women in their late 40s and 50s, presenting with cells that resemble the medulla (gray matter) of the brain.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:08 am
Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma (ILC)
Infiltrating lobular carcinoma is a type of breast cancer that usually appears as a subtle thickening in the upper-outer quadrant of the breast. This breast cancer type represents 5% of all diagnosis. Often positive for estrogen and progesterone receptors, these tumors respond well to hormone therapy.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:09 am
Tubular Carcinoma
Making up about 2% of all breast cancer diagnosis, tubular carcinoma cells have a distinctive tubular structure when viewed under a microscope. Typically this type of breast cancer is found in women aged 50 and above. It has an excellent 10-year survival rate of 95%.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:09 am
Mucinous Carcinoma (Colloid)
Mucinous carcinoma represents approximately 1% to 2% of all breast carcinoma. This type of breast cancer’s main differentiating features are mucus production and cells that are poorly defined. It also has a favorable prognosis in most cases.
Comment by Rochelle K — October 17, 2008 @ 11:10 am
Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC)
Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare and very aggressive type of breast cancer that causes the lymph vessels in the skin of the breast to become blocked. This type of breast cancer is called “inflammatory” because the breast often looks swollen and red, or “inflamed”. IBC accounts for 1% to 5% of all breast cancer cases in the United States.

$180!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last, but not least, thank you to everyone who personally contributes this month (and that means out of your OWN pocket!! lol) which you can do on various websites and blogs, both as part of simple donations and as contests. We can all make a difference in this (and every other cause) by just taking a moment and giving a little something – whatever it may be – whether it be $100, $20, $1, or even just a moment of our time to make a comment on a blog. Good luck everyone and I wish you all the best.
XOXOXO
Rochelle
