I'm suspecting they had initially signed a 3 year contract with her and either of the parties had not renewed it. A Lancome MA was telling me, that Gucci never came to do the trainings herself, whereas her predecessor Fred Farrugia always did. She also said, that she feels the company is not so satisfied with Gucci's performance. Personally I didn't find her very innovative and often she just kept recycling colors from season to season.
